Trapezoid Chair (Black Leather)

The indoor Trapezoid Chair, created by Benjamin (Ben) Martinelli, was designed in 2019 while he was stationed in Germany. He wanted to create a simple, elegant chair that was visually interesting and comfortable to sit in. At the time, Ben visited the Pinakothek der Moderne art museum in Munich, Germany and was intrigued by the angular designs of Marcel Breuer’s Bauhaus furniture, notably the “Armchair” and “Wassily” chairs.

Thereafter, the genesis of the Trapezoid was conceived and Ben built a small-scale model and then a full-sized pine prototype. Once he achieved the proper dimensions, he found a nearby lumber mill in Washington, Maine which handled old growth Burmese teak. The owner recommended asking a neighbor, an Amish saddler, to build the seats. Ben met Reuben that very afternoon and commissioned the seat for the prototype.

Every Trapezoid Chair is made by hand from start to finish by local Maine artisans using a balanced mix of hand and power tools combined with precise mortise and tenon joinery.  It takes approximately 20 hours over many days to build each chair.  The process is deliberate with remarkable attention paid to every step along the way. The seat of the Trapezoid Chair is adjustable with three buckle straps constructed from a beautiful durable saddle leather.

This chair is offered in Burmese Old Growth Teak, Walnut, and Maple. Please contact us for pricing. Prices vary depending on wood species.

Trapezoid Chair (Outdoor)

Ben also crafted an outdoor version of the Trapezoid Chair which has a few subtle differences than the original. This outdoor chair has a slightly deeper reclined back, is wider, and the seat material was deliberately sought after to bare the elements.

With commitment to quality and craftsmanship, Reuben created the seat of this outdoor chairing using a beautiful, resilient waxed canvas imported from Scotland. This marine-grade fabric comes in three colors: Navy Blue, Brown, and Hunter Green. Then the chair is finished with a unique oil base so clients can let the chair age naturally for a weathered aesthetic or apply oil annually to maintain the rich, shiny brown color. The chair seat can be removed easily to accomplish this, with the same three-buckle design as the original.

This chair is offered in Burmese Old Growth Teak, and African Sapele. Please contact us for pricing. Prices vary depending on wood species.

Trapezoid Side Table

Ben designed the Trapezoid Side Table as an elegant compliment to the Trapezoid Chair. Using the mortise and tenon technique that is the trademark of our furniture, this four-legged table is finished with a round-cornered glass top.

The Trapezoid Side Table is offered in Burmese Old Growth Teak, Walnut, Maple and African Sapele. Please contact us for pricing. Prices vary depending on wood species.
